German Minister Anna Lührmann addresses Bosnia's constitutional crisis

Germany's Minister for Europe and Climate, Anna Lührmann, who is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina from April 3 to 5, issued a strong message to the citizens of Bosnia ahead of her arrival, condemning recent "attacks on the constitutional order" of the country. She emphasized that Germany, together with EU partners, is working on "further individual measures against those responsible."
"Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently experiencing its most severe constitutional crisis since the Dayton Peace Agreement came into effect 30 years ago. Key reforms and the next steps in the EU accession process are blocked, putting the future of many people in the EU in question," Lührmann stated.
She sent "clear messages" to all citizens and political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
“Bosnia’s future lies in the EU. Do not let this opportunity go to waste. It is crucial to overcome the reform deadlock to enable progress in the EU accession process. The country's hope and expectations rest on pro-European reform forces.
“Attacks on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina in recent weeks are unacceptable. Together with EU partners, the Quint group, and the Peace Implementation Council for the Dayton Agreement, Germany will act decisively against those responsible for these attacks.”
Lührmann highlighted that financial consequences have already been imposed and that Germany, alongside EU partners, is working on further individual measures against those responsible, with steps already underway.
Germany remains steadfast in its support for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, regardless of their national or entity affiliation. "We will not allow attacks on functionality and territorial integrity," she affirmed.
In Sarajevo, she will meet with the State Presidency, the Council of Ministers Chair and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH. She will also have a meeting with the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt.
Meetings with representatives of the opposition parties from Republika Srpska are planned in Banja Luka. Her visit will be rounded off with a series of talks with civil society actors and media representatives.
State Minister Lührmann will carry out part of the program together with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
